Welcome to West Drayton Mountain Bikes - promoters of the Bucks On and Off-Road Sportives and organisers of Black Park XC racing

Bucks Road Sportive : 3rd March 2019

Long term race and ride promoters the WDMBC promote this road sportive for the 9th consecutive year , the ride has two distances to choose from, the full 100km and a shorter 68 km,  although the routes have been changed for this year, both rides will still feature some of the iconic Chiltern Hills.

The long event which has over 3000ft of climbing  commences with a relatively flat start to Gt Missenden following last years route which then gets tougher in the last half as the ride goes over Stokenchurch, Small Dean Lane  and Cryers Hill which will no doubt see some riders reaching for the granny gear. After Cryers Hill the rides continues towards Holmer Green and Beaconsfield  and back via the  Chalfonts to finish at the Chiltern Social Club where there will be home made cakes and refreshments to aid the recovery.

The HQ also has the use of a licensed bar, for those not driving to have a celebratory drink whilst they recount their war stories with their fellow riders.

Although not a race there are 3 time standards to aim for in the 100km event Gold under 3.5hrs, Silver under 4.15 and Bronze under 5hrs.

The 2018 event was praised for the clear route marking and the club aim to keep the same standards up for this year, pre-entered riders will be sent a link to a GPS file.
The event will be limited in terms of numbers with a maximum field of 300 riders. the routes will be signposted and GPS files will be available and sent out to pre-entered riders.

This will be a ride to test yourself over the distance, no food stops will be provided but there will be plenty of food at the HQ for pre and post event carbs as well as the provision of a licensed bar for those not driving back.

This event has now been run for the last 8 years with people complementing the event for the friendly atmosphere and well-marked challenging route

For the last 3 years we have had an event photographer who tries to capture everyone taking part and publishes all the photos on Facebook where they can be downloaded for free and we are intending to provide this service once again.

This year the event again starts from the Chiltern Sports and Social Club Maple Lodge , Maple Cross which is easily accessible from the M25 /M40 as stated the rides will follow a new route for this year  which avoids Marlow Town Centre which has become busier in the last few years  The plus side to this is that Winter Hill is avoided, the negative side is that we have found something equally as steep !!

Riders will start in groups of 12 to prevent any disruption to other road users, with groups being set of in anticipated standard time abilities.

Rides will be timed in order to work out the standard times.

For major breakdowns a sag wagon will be available

Entry fee will be £15 and £20 on the day, subject to space being available.

On line entry will soon be available be via the British Cycling website from here.

Photo's from last years event can be viewed here

The event is organised by members of the WDMBC organisers of sportive events, the West Thames series and races both on and off road for the last 29 years.

This year the club will have a dedicated website for the event here keep checking for updates.

Details will also be on the clubs facebook page here

Total climbing is over 1100 metres for the long route and 720 metres for the 68km route

We look forward to seeing you .

Yours in sport
